Payong Kapatid: Bringing Essential Services Closer to the Community

Payong Kapatid is one of the flagship community service initiatives of the Rotaract Club of Tacloban, dedicated to improving access to essential legal, medical, and social services for underserved communities. Guided by Rotary's commitment to service and community development, the project brings together professionals, government agencies, healthcare
providers, and volunteers to deliver integrated services that address the everyday needs of individuals and families.


Now in its second year, Payong Kapatid 2.0 continued its mission of making vital public services more accessible through a one-stop community outreach program. Recognizing that many residents face barriers to accessing healthcare, legal assistance, and public information, the initiative created a convenient and welcoming venue where community members could receive free consultations, basic health services, legal advice, and educational discussions from qualified professionals.


The success of the project was made possible through the collaboration of numerous partner organizations that generously shared their expertise and resources. Free legal assistance was provided by the Integrated Bar of the Philippines (IBP) Leyte Chapter and the National Union of Peoples' Lawyers (NUPL) – Tacloban Chapter, while healthcare services were delivered with the support of Tacloban City Hospital. The Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) Regional Office VIII also conducted educational sessions to promote awareness on drug prevention and community safety. The initiative was further strengthened by the support of co-hosts, including the Rotary Club of Tacloban, Rotaract Club of Carmona, Rotaract Club of Sta. Mesa, and Sidlak Batan-on, whose collaboration expanded the project's reach and impact.


Essential medicines were also distributed through the generous sponsorship of Zuellig Pharma, Pediatrica, and Terrapharm, ensuring that beneficiaries received much-needed medications alongside professional consultations and health services.

Through Payong Kapatid, the Rotaract Club of Tacloban continues to demonstrate that meaningful service is built through collaboration and compassion. By bringing together diverse organizations with a shared commitment to public service, the project empowers communities with access to essential resources, promotes health and justice, and strengthens the spirit of bayanihan. As one of the club's flagship initiatives, Payong Kapatid remains committed to creating healthier, safer, and more empowered communities—one outreach at a time.
