#SkillUp: Empowering Communities Through Digital and Professional Development

#SkillUp is one of the flagship community and economic development initiatives of the Rotaract Club of Tacloban, designed to equip individuals with practical skills that enhance employability, entrepreneurship, and digital literacy. Recognizing the growing demand for digital competence and workplace readiness in today's evolving economy, the project provides accessible learning opportunities that empower students, job seekers, aspiring entrepreneurs, and community members to become more competitive and self-sufficient.


Anchored on Rotary's commitment to Community Economic Development, #SkillUp bridges the gap between education and employment by offering hands-on training in essential digital tools, communication, and career preparation. The initiative aims to develop both technical and interpersonal skills, enabling participants to adapt to the changing demands of the workforce while fostering confidence and lifelong learning.


One of the project's successful implementations was held at the Guindapunan Covered Court in Palo, Leyte, where participants engaged in a series of interactive learning sessions facilitated by knowledgeable resource speakers. The program featured "Beyond the Basics: Canva for Students, Businesses, and Applicants," which introduced participants to effective graphic design techniques for academic, business, and professional use. Participants also attended "Resume Writing and Communication Skills: Acing an Interview," where they learned how to craft compelling resumes, communicate confidently, and prepare for employment opportunities. Completing the training was "Microsoft Digital Literacy: Basic Competency for Employees," which equipped participants with essential computer skills commonly required in today's workplaces.


More than a skills training program, #SkillUp serves as a platform for empowerment by providing participants with practical knowledge they can immediately apply in their studies, careers, businesses, and everyday lives. The initiative encourages innovation, creativity, and continuous self-improvement while helping individuals become more prepared for future opportunities in an increasingly digital world.

Through #SkillUp, the Rotaract Club of Tacloban continues to invest in people by promoting education, digital inclusion, and economic empowerment. By developing the knowledge and capabilities of individuals, the project contributes to building resilient communities where people are equipped not only to secure opportunities but also to create them, fostering sustainable growth and improving the quality of life for future generations.
