Project Bulig: Responding with Compassion in Times of Crisis

Project Bulig is the flagship disaster response and humanitarian relief initiative of the Rotaract Club of Tacloban, created to provide immediate assistance to individuals and communities affected by natural disasters, fires, and other emergencies. Rooted in the Filipino spirit of bayanihan and Rotary's commitment to Service Above Self, the project mobilizes volunteers, partners, and donors to deliver timely relief and support to families facing unexpected hardships.

When a devastating fire struck Brgy. 80 Marasbaras, Tacloban City, destroying homes and displacing dozens of families, the Rotaract Club of Tacloban immediately activated Project Bulig to respond to the community's urgent needs. The tragedy affected 33 households, 42 families, and 155 individuals, many of whom lost their homes, belongings, and basic necessities. Recognizing the importance of acting swiftly during times of crisis, the club organized a relief effort to provide essential items that could help families begin their recovery.

Through the generosity of donors and volunteers, Project Bulig distributed clothing, cooking utensils, buckets, basins, hygiene supplies, and other household essentials to affected residents. The initiative worked closely with barangay officials to identify the most pressing needs of the community, ensuring that assistance reached those who needed it most. Beyond material aid, the project also served as a platform for mobilizing additional support from individuals, organizations, and community partners who wished to contribute to the recovery efforts.

More than a relief operation, Project Bulig reflects the Rotaract Club of Tacloban's commitment to standing beside communities before, during, and after disasters. It recognizes that recovery extends beyond providing emergency supplies—it is about restoring dignity, offering hope, and reminding affected families that they are not alone in their journey toward rebuilding their lives.

As a continuing flagship project, Project Bulig remains ready to respond whenever calamity strikes. Through collaboration, volunteerism, and the collective spirit of compassion, the Rotaract Club of Tacloban continues to provide immediate assistance while fostering resilience and unity among the communities it serves. Every act of generosity, no matter how small, becomes part of a larger effort to help families recover, rebuild, and move forward with hope.
