Project Bulig: Extending Hope to Fire-Affected Communities

Project Bulig is the flagship disaster response and humanitarian relief initiative of the Rotaract Club of Tacloban, dedicated to providing immediate assistance to communities affected by disasters, emergencies, and unforeseen crises. Guided by the spirit of bayanihan and Rotary's principle of Service Above Self, the project mobilizes volunteers, partners, and donors to deliver timely aid while helping affected families begin their journey toward recovery.


In response to the fire that struck Barangay 45, Sta. Cruz, Tacloban City, the Rotaract Club of Tacloban, in partnership with Volunteers for the Visayans, Inc. (VFV), immediately organized a relief operation through Project Bulig. Understanding that families who lose their homes often require not only food and basic necessities but also comfort during difficult times, the initiative focused on providing essential household items that could help restore a sense of normalcy.


Through the generosity of donors and supporters, the project raised ₱9,000, which was used to procure and distribute pillows and blankets to 36 fire-affected families. These simple yet essential items provided warmth, comfort, and dignity to families temporarily displaced by the tragedy. While material assistance cannot replace what was lost, it served as a reminder that the community stands beside them in their recovery.

The success of this relief effort was made possible through the collaborative efforts of Rotaract volunteers, community partners, and generous individuals who believed in the importance of extending compassion during times of crisis. By working together, the initiative demonstrated how collective action can provide immediate relief while inspiring hope among those facing life's most challenging moments.

As a continuing flagship project, Project Bulig remains committed to responding whenever disasters strike. Whether assisting victims of fires, typhoons, floods, or other emergencies, the Rotaract Club of Tacloban continues to uphold its mission of serving communities with compassion, urgency, and solidarity. Through every relief operation, Project Bulig reminds us that true service goes beyond providing aid—it is about restoring hope, strengthening resilience, and assuring every affected family that they are never alone.
