Restore the Coast, Reclaim the Future: Mangrove Planting Initiative

Restore the Coast, Reclaim the Future is one of the environmental stewardship initiatives supported by the Rotaract Club of Tacloban, reflecting the club's commitment to environmental sustainability and Rotary's Area of Focus on Protecting the Environment. Through tree and mangrove planting activities, the project promotes climate action, biodiversity conservation, and community participation in protecting the region's natural resources for future generations.


As part of a district-wide environmental movement, Rotaractors and Rotarians from across Rotary International District 3860 gathered in Barangay Malaguicay, Abuyog, Leyte for a large-scale mangrove planting activity. The initiative united volunteers from different clubs under a common goal of restoring coastal ecosystems while strengthening the resilience of coastal communities against the impacts of climate change.


The Rotaract Club of Tacloban proudly joined fellow Rotary and Rotaract clubs in planting mangrove seedlings along the coastline, contributing to the long-term rehabilitation of critical coastal habitats. Mangrove forests play a vital role in protecting shorelines from erosion and storm surges, improving water quality, supporting marine biodiversity, and serving as important carbon sinks that help mitigate the effects of climate change. By restoring these ecosystems, the project creates lasting environmental benefits while safeguarding the livelihoods of communities that depend on healthy coastal resources.

The activity also marked a meaningful milestone for the club's newly inducted members, who participated in their first community service project through environmental action. Their involvement reflected the club's commitment to cultivating socially and environmentally responsible leaders who understand that service extends beyond people to the protection of the natural world.


More than a tree-planting activity, Restore the Coast, Reclaim the Future symbolizes the power of collective action in addressing one of today's greatest global challenges. By bringing together volunteers, community members, and partner organizations, the initiative demonstrates that lasting environmental change begins with collaboration and shared responsibility.
