TYPE KITA: Mass Blood Donation Drive

TYPE KITA is the flagship blood donation and humanitarian health initiative of the Rotaract Club of Tacloban, dedicated to promoting voluntary blood donation and strengthening the local blood supply for patients in need. Guided by Rotary's commitment to disease prevention and community health, the project aims to cultivate a culture of regular blood donation while educating the public about the life-saving impact of becoming a voluntary blood donor.

Blood remains one of the most critical yet irreplaceable resources in healthcare. Every day, hospitals rely on donated blood to treat accident victims, patients undergoing major surgeries, mothers experiencing childbirth complications, children battling serious illnesses, cancer patients, and individuals living with chronic medical conditions. Recognizing the continuous demand for safe and sufficient blood, the Rotaract Club of Tacloban established TYPE KITA as a sustainable initiative that encourages members of the community to become active partners in saving lives through voluntary blood donation.

The TYPE KITA: Mass Blood Donation Drive successfully brought together volunteer donors, healthcare professionals, Rotaractors, and community partners in a shared commitment to giving the gift of life. The activity was made possible through the collaboration of the Eastern Visayas Medical Center Blood Bank, Tacloban City Hospital, Rotary Club of Tacloban, and Bombo Radyo Tacloban, whose expertise and support ensured that the blood donation drive was conducted safely, efficiently, and in accordance with national health standards.

The initiative is anchored on the objectives of Republic Act No. 7719, also known as the National Blood Services Act, which promotes voluntary, non-remunerated blood donation to help ensure a safe, adequate, and sustainable blood supply throughout the country. By encouraging healthy individuals to donate blood regularly, the project contributes to strengthening the healthcare system while increasing public awareness about the importance of blood donation as an act of civic responsibility and compassion.

Beyond collecting blood, TYPE KITA serves as a platform for fostering volunteerism, community solidarity, and humanitarian service. Every donor who participates becomes part of a larger movement that extends hope to countless patients and families facing medical emergencies. A single unit of donated blood has the potential to save multiple lives, making every donation a meaningful contribution to the well-being of the community.

The Rotaract Club of Tacloban extends its deepest gratitude to every blood donor, volunteer, healthcare worker, and partner organization whose generosity and dedication made the project a success. Their selfless commitment embodies the true spirit of Service Above Self, demonstrating that ordinary individuals can make an extraordinary difference through a simple act of kindness.

Through TYPE KITA, the Rotaract Club of Tacloban continues its commitment to promoting health, volunteerism, and humanitarian service. As one of the club's flagship initiatives, the project not only helps strengthen the region's blood supply but also inspires more people to become regular blood donors, ensuring that life-saving blood will always be available for those who need it most. Every donation is more than a bag of blood—it is hope, healing, and another chance at life.
